A writer, mediator and lawyer, Ruth loves adventure. She’s been Kidding Around the Gorge since 2001 when her family moved to Hood River. At the time, there was no road map, guiding young families, so she teamed with Jody Barringer and wrote the first Kidding Around the Gorge. In 2008, Ruth and her husband followed through on their marital promise and took their kids on a three year sailing adventure. They sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge, journeyed south to Ecuador and then across the Pacific to Australia, with hundreds of stops along the way. Her advice to families is to seize the moment — after all — life is about the journey, not the destination.
An outdoor enthusiast, Lisa rides her mountain bike, shreds powder days on Mt. Hood and digs in the dirt in her organic garden. In her past life, Lisa represented the United States on the US Olympic Snowboard Team in Salt Lake City, Utah (2002) and Nagano, Japan (1998). After spending almost 20 summers in the Gorge training on Mt. Hood, she moved to Hood River full time in 2004. She and her husband, also an Olympic snowboarder, are raising their 5 year old daughter here. Lisa founded Let’s Get Out Adventure Camps so she can help kids play, connect and thrive in the outdoors. Her advice to families is to pack a lot of snacks and get outside together.
